Whotune is the World’s only social network 100% dedicated to music.

Whotune is the premier free online music community promoting unsigned artists, music education, music products and news, everything those involved in music making need.

The Project

Whotune required a Rich Internet Application (RIA) and iPhone / iPad App to build their online community of musicians, fans and businesses. The RIA Reignite built for Whotune had to offer all the tools and features a musician would need to have a professional presence online. The companion iPhone and iPad App had to have all the features required by a fan to listen to and watch an artist on Whotune. The fully featured RIA included:

Whotune

Profiles – Users can create a Band, Solo Artist, Fan or Business Profile.
Uploads – Users can upload their songs, videos, photos and bio info.
Live Cams – Users can perform live gigs or broadcast a jam session online via a web cam.
Radio – There is an online radio station that plays user’s uploaded music to fans around the world.
Sell Music – Users can sell their music on Whotune with full integration into PayPal.
Competitions – Users can enter into competitions.
Charts – Users can votes for songs and there is a Top 50 Chart.
Collaborate – Musicians can find other artists to help them complete unfinished songs.
Communicate – Users can add messages to a messages wall and send private message.
Instant Message – Users can instant messaging other users currently on Whotune.
Comment – Users can add comments to artists songs and videos.
Friends – Users can become friends with other Whotune users.
Link – Users can link to Facebook, Twitter or other profiles.
Share – Artists can share their songs and videos directly to Facebook or Myspace.
News – Users can stay up to date with the latest music products or find the latest music industry news from around the world via an RSS Feed.

The Approach

Using Reignite’s Agile Methodology, Reignite worked with Whotune to capture their business requirements in workshops and to gain insight into their expertise within the music industry. The application was then prototyped, developed, tested and deployed in an iterative process.

Reignite is currently adding more social networking features by integrating Gigya into Whotune to allow users to login via their other social networking site usernames and passwords. This will also allow users to more easily share content from Whotune to other sites like Facebook, Twiter and MySpace.

Reignite is also working on an Android mobile app for fans to listen to an watch artists on Whotune.
